The Tropheus I keep

There are 2 types of Tropheus I kept. Tropheus Duboisi "Karilani" that I have purchased in January 2000. Tropheus spec. aff. moorii "Ikola" that I purchased during June 1999 and November 1999. Below a description of them.

Tropheus spec. aff. moorii "Ikola"

Tropheus spec. aff. moorii "Ikola" is also known as "Kaiser Moorii". The color is varying, depending on their mood and age. In the middle of their body a wide yellow band stretches, whilst head and tail remain almost black. Their habitat is located at the east coast of lake Tanganjika near a village called "Ikola". My group is relatively aggressive with two males having divided the tank between them and having occupied the two major rocks. Currently 5 juveniles and 12 adults are in the tank.

Tropheus Duboisi "Karilani"

Tropheus Duboisi "Karilani", are one of 4 different variations of the Duboisi line. They are located on the Karilani island in at the east cost of lake Tanganjika. They can easily be identified through their very thin white band compared to Duboisi "Maswa" or "Kigoma". They are much less aggressive than Tropheus moorii and seem also be more resistant to changes of water or other environmental parameters. I purchased the group of 12 from a Belgian tropheus fan and discovered later that 2 of them showed deformations in the eye region. One has only got one left eye, where the other has got a very small right eye. Besides that they are always with the group and show no signs of suffering.
